If you are trying to design a room, there are different factors or patterns that you should consider during the process. The first thing to do before settling down on buying accessories and other decorative elements on a whim, is to decide what is your inspirational piece: this could be anything from a cushion, a colorful piece of artwork to a design piece that you already have. The inspirational piece will determine your theme for the room.

For your inspiration just go through the pages of a design magazine or browse online for the best decor blogs for trendsetting. For example if you are decorating your bathroom, your inspirational piece could be a leafy colorful rug: this can translate into a natural/botanic theme, which you can follow throughout even with a flower faucet (tap). Even the lighting can keep the theme going, for example, the leafy super cute chandelier by Marina Putilovskaya for Mechini.

The theme depends also on the color scheme that your inspirational piece inevitably establishes. If you decide to décor by color, always consider that usually it is a combination of three: a dominant color, used for walls, carpeting and fabric backgrounds, a secondary color for fabrics and accessories and an accent color, used sparingly to give energy to the room. As in the picture, the ‘ethereal’ rug with its soft cream tones is surrounded by similar light colors, broken by bold dark ones, like the black coffee table. It creates a very relaxing and clean atmosphere, which can only be topped with great lightings, like Mechini’s floor lamp in wrought iron with colored Swarovski strass, Murano glass and lampshade.

When you choose a rug make sure its size fits your furniture arrangement, that the texture is well balanced with the rest of your accessories, as too much of one can get boring.

When you arrange your furniture, try to create a focal point if your room doesn’t already have one, such as a bay window or a fireplace. There is a variety of modern fireplaces on the market to take your imagination, such as the octagon shaped one in the picture. Balance the focal point with symmetry, for example with a Murano Glass Chandelier, catching all the glimmer of the fire from above the rug.

Always try to keep in with the mood of the room, this is very easy to experiment with a bedroom as it is usually a relaxing and cozy conceived: a rustic mood, like in the picture, is easy to achieve with natural stone tiled floors and walls, a fireplace and a bearskin rug. Make it romantic with a pair of Mechini table lamps, simply idyllic.

Finally, it is all about your personality. If your room is pretty much complete but you want to oomph it up a little, such as in the minimalistic and clean lines of the white seating furniture, think out of the box and indulge yourself with outstanding lighting, the colorful shades of the anniversary collection chandeliers by Mechini.
